SECTION

 

SATURDAY & SUNDAY 21ST & 22ND AUGUST

REGULATIONS FOR HORTICULTURE SECTION

 

1.             All plants, flowers etc. brought to the place of exhibition in dirty pots or

Boxes, or in any way that may appear to the Committee to be discreditable to the Show, shall at once be removed from the Hall.

2.             No person shall be allowed to remain with the Judges, with the exception of Secretary and Stewards, who must not be exhibitors in the classes for which they are acting as Stewards.

3.             No plants, flowers, fruits or vegetables shall be taken off the tables or stands before the close of the Show.   No exhibit, or part of, may be removed before the close of the Show.

4.             Any person touching or otherwise interfering with the plants, flowers, fruits or vegetables after they have been staged, with out permission from the Committee, shall be instantly removed from the place of exhibition.

5.             Appeals must be lodged with the Secretary before 2.00 p.m. on the first day of the Show, together with the sum of €10 which shall be refunded if the complaint is upheld.

6.             Judging will be in accordance with the revised rules of the Royal

Horticultural Society, except Dahlias which will be judged according to Rules of the National Dahlia Society, and the Decorative Classes which will judged in accordance with the N.A.F.A.S. Rules.

 

STAGING AND REMOVAL OF EXHIBITS

               

Exhibitors number cards will be available in the Horticulture Area (Ground Floor of Grandstand) on FRIDAY 20th.   Exhibitors must collect them there personally and have Pass.   Intending Exhibitors will have been informed beforehand of any classes that have been cancelled.   Exhibitors must collect their exhibits between 5.00 and 6.30 p.m. on Sunday 22nd August.

At 5.30 p.m. on Sunday all visitors and competitors must vacate the Horticulture Area leaving the exhibits intact.   When the Area is empty, exhibitors will be re-admitted only with Pass and may then remove their exhibits.

 

All exhibits to be removed by 6.30 p.m. and no responsibility will be taken for anything left after that time.

 

 

PHOTOGRAPHS OF PRIZE WINNERS WILL TAKE PLACE at 4.30 P.M.

AND DRAW WILL TAKE PLACE at 5 P.M.

 

 

EXHIBITION RULES

1.             All exhibits must be staged on the day preceding the show.   No exhibit will be accepted on the day of the show with the exception of class 186 (SEE BELOW).

2.             Any prize may, at the discretion of the Judges, be withheld or modified if in their opinion the exhibit is not deserving of the prize offered.   A class may be cancelled unless there are at least three entries.

3.             No cup will be awarded in any class unless a first prize is awarded

4.                Exhibitors must stage their exhibits in the places appointed by the Show.

5.             The Committee will not be in any way responsible for loss or damage done to exhibits, stands, vases, etc. during or after the Show.

5.             Prize winners must collect their Prize Money between 2.00 – 6 p.m. on either day of the show in the Horticulture area.

WOULD EXHIBITORS PLEASE NOTE

All exhibits must be staged between the hours of 3 p.m. and 8.30 p.m. on Friday 20th.    To facilitate exhibitors from a distance, in CLASS 186 only, the Horticulture Area will be open from 7.45 – 8.45 a.m. on Saturday 21st August.

Please note that the Horticulture Area must be vacated at 8.45 a.m. sharp as

 judging will commence at 9.00 a.m.

DAHLIA SECTION

ENTRY FEE FOR CLASS 128 IS €5     CLASSES 129 to 135 IS €1

 

All Dahlias will be judged according to the Rules and Classifications of the National Dahlia Society laid down in the latest edition of the Classified Directory of Dahlias.

Exhibits MUST be disqualified if they exceed the following sizes:

 

Large Flowered Dahlias                                10.25 inches

Medium Flowered Dahlias                                8.75 inches

Small Flowered Dahlias                                6.75 inches

Miniature Flowered Dahlias                4.5 inches

Pom-Pop Dahlias                                                2 inches.

 

If a vase in a multi vase exhibit should be N.A.S. then the whole exhibit MUST be disqualified.   Once an exhibit has been disqualified it cannot be considered for any other award, either in whole or in part.

A set of approved size rings will be available in the Horticulture Area and also a copy of the classified Directory of Dahlias.

The Nantenan Perpetual Cup will be awarded to the Best Vase from

Classes 130, 131, 132 and 133.

 

134.         POM POMS, SMALL.  5 blooms, one or more varieties in once vase.

                The National Dahlia Society Silver Medal will be awarded to the best Dahlia exhibit in the Show and the Bronze Medal at the discretion of the Judges in class 128 – 134.

The Ballymackeogh Cup will be awarded to most points in Classes 101 – 134

186.                GARDEN PRODUCE.  - SPECIAL COMPETITION (Rules below)

               

Rules and Conditions -

1.   In this competition exhibitors will be required to exhibit Home Grown Garden Products.

2.  Competitors may qualify only one exhibit.

3.  All items must be grown by the exhibitor

4.  Each exhibit to consist of the following -

     A selection of home grown vegetables consisting of not more than 3 vegetables of any variety,

    up to  but not more than 5 different kinds of vegetables. 

   Vegetables to be displayed together on any base  of exhibitors choice not exceeding 24” x 24 “.

    A truss of tomatoes may be included per garden. 

    Cut greenery from the garden may be used and will be classified as decoration.

5.  Points will be awarded for uniformity of size, qualify, freshness and artistic appearance.

 

PRIZE MONEY FOR CLASS 186 ONLY – 1st  €50,  2nd  €25 & 3rd  €15.
