Cattle Results
This year in Limerick
we had a large increase in entries in some breeds. On Saturday we had Dairy Shorthorn,
Beef Shorthorn, Holstein Friesian, Jersey and Commercial Cattle. The day opened
with two stockpersons. The Dairy Stockperson was won By Garry Jones from
Gorey and Nicola Sinnott from Gorey also was 2nd and Louise Burke
was 3rd from Kilfinny. The second Stockperson was confined to Commercial cattle.
The winner of this was Shane Cassidy from Longford, 2nd was Muireann
Hannon from Kilfinny and 3rd was Martin Rock from Oldcastle Co. Meath.
The Champion and Reserve in the Dairy Shorthorn Section went to Glen Carter
Roscrea, Co. Tipperary.
The Champion in the Beef Shorthorn Section went
to Michael O Callaghan Roses Ave, Limerick, and Reserve went to Michael
and Yvonne Conway Cree, Kilrush Co. Clare.
The Champion in the Holstein
Friesian section went to Joseph Sheedy from Tipperary and reserve went
to Nigel Bryan , Minnane Bridge, Co. Cork
The All Ireland Pedigree
Holstein Heifer 'Sponsored by Kerry- Agribusiness' went to the Jones from
Gorey, Co. Wexford and Reserve was K. & S. Kelly from Burnfoot Co.
Tipperary.
In the Jersey Section J.M & N Collins from Newcastle
West were Champion and Reserve.
In the Commercial section we had cattle from
Malin Head to Mizen Head in our classes. The Champion commercial went to Joe
Hanalin Ballyglas, Quinn, Co. Clare and Reserve went to Michael Fogerty,
Tubber, Co. Clare.
In the commercial section we also hosted the 2003 All
Ireland Baby Beef Superthrive Championship 'Sponsored by Greenvale Animal Feeds'
The Champion in this competition was Sean O'Brien Burnfoot, Co. Donegal
and Reserve was Ivan White from Bailiboro, Co. Cavan. Then finally in the
commercial section we had The 2003 Non-Pedigree calf Championship 'Sponsored by
Pfizer Animal Health'. The Champion in this competition was Sam Allister
from Stranooden, Co. Monaghan and Reserve was The McCann family Athlone,
Co. Westmeath.
On Sunday we had an even bigger exhibition of cattle. Once
again we started off with a Stockperson class with twelve competitors taking place
- the biggest one in the year. It was confined to pedigree beef cattle only. The
winner in this competition was Limerick's very own John Hannon and his
sister was second followed Patrick O' Hara in 3rd Position.
In The
Angus section champion and reserve went to Albert DeCogan, Castlemartyr,
Co. Cork.
In The Hereford section Albert De Cogan was also champion
and Ann Flynn Carrick-On-Shannon, Co. Leitrim was Reserve.
In the
Simmental section the Champion went to Martin Regan from Ballyhaunis, Co.
Roscommon and Reserve went to Paddy Hennelly. In the Simmental section
they hosted the YISA All Ireland Stockperson Competition. The Competition was
divided into two groups, Junior and Senior. Niall Canning from Roscommon
was the winner of the Junior section and Karen O Connell from Mallow Co.
Cork was the winner of the Senior Section.
In the Belgian Blue section Dan
Duignan from Nenagh was Champion and Michael Hannon from Kilfinny was
Reserve Champion.
The Charolais Section had a very high standard of cattle.
The Champion was a 16 Month old bull owned by Dan & J.J Melody from
Bunratty and Reserve was Jim & Ivan Ryall from Castlemartyr Co. Cork
In the Limousin section we had a huge entry of cattle. The Judge was from an AI
station in France who were sponsoring four calf classes at the end of the show.
The Champion went to James Wycherly from Bandon Co. Cork and Reserve went
to John & Willie Smith from Oldcastle Co. Meath. The winners of the
Sersia classes were John and Willie Smith from Oldcastle, James Wycherly
Bandon, Thomas F Daly Co. Kilkenny and Doreen Corridan from Fedamore.
